NEW SKIES — Performance
Presented during the opening of New Skies at Induction Gallery’s new space in the Granada Buildings, Los Angeles, the performance extended the exhibition’s movement from the domestic into the public realm.
Through moving image, spoken text, light, sound, and interactions with works from the exhibition, Hallauer traced a passage through concealment and exposure, inherited violence, migration, forgiveness, and transformation. Moving from the memory of closed shutters in his childhood home to the image of a migrating heron and his own departure from Switzerland, the performance connected personal memory with questions of visibility, belonging, and emancipation. It concluded by transforming the performance space into a communal gathering, shifting from isolation toward connection.
